This is not the first instance the UK has been tightening the rules for crypto advertisements. There has already been an investigation after the crypto coin FLOKI had a massive ad campaign in London, and it has caused quite a bit of controversy about cryptocurrency investing and crypto ads, which certainly pushed these new measures to appear.

Regulators have wanted to extend their grasp on crypto, and it seems they are getting their way.

The new amendments were submitted on October 21st and are due to be discussed by November 3rd.
