Hemi

Hemi is a modular network built on Bitcoin and Ethereum, designed to deliver unmatched scalability, security, and interoperability. Unlike most projects that treat Bitcoin and Ethereum as isolated silos, Hemi unites them into a single supernetwork, unlocking greater programmability, portability, and entirely new possibilities for Bitcoin DeFi and beyond. The project was co-founded by Jeff Garzik, a former Bitcoin core developer, and Max Sanchez, creator of the Proof-of-Proof consensus protocol, and is supported by a team of leading blockchain engineers, strategic partners, and investors.

At its foundation, Hemi introduces the Hemi Virtual Machine (hVM), which integrates an Ethereum Virtual Machine directly with a Bitcoin node, granting seamless access to both Bitcoin and Ethereum states. The Hemi Bitcoin Kit (hBK) builds on this by giving developers direct tools to leverage Bitcoin’s state awareness for next-generation Bitcoin DeFi applications. Security is reinforced through Proof-of-Proof consensus, a highly decentralized and censorship-resistant mechanism that inherits Bitcoin-level security. Asset mobility is enabled through Tunnels, a secure bridge for transferring assets between Bitcoin, Hemi, and Ethereum.

The ecosystem is powered by the HEMI token, which provides governance capabilities and will serve as the future gas token, ensuring that users and developers alike are deeply aligned with the network’s growth.
