Worldcoin

Worldcoin (WLD) aims to build the world’s largest identity and financial network—open to everyone, owned by everyone.

At the heart of the system is World ID: a privacy-preserving identity protocol that lets users prove they're real humans online (aka “Proof of Personhood”) without giving up their privacy—thanks to zero-knowledge proofs.

To get started, users download the World App, the first wallet that supports World ID creation. To verify, they visit a device called the Orb, which uses multispectral sensors to confirm you’re a unique human. Images are deleted by default unless users opt in to data custody. Orbs are run by local operators around the world.

Once verified, users can claim recurring free grants of WLD tokens (not available in the U.S.). This makes WLD one of the most widely distributed digital assets globally.

WLD isn’t just a token—it’s a utility and governance asset. With World ID, Worldcoin opens the door for one-person-one-vote governance, in contrast to typical one-token-one-vote systems. Future governance will be shaped by the community, with the Worldcoin Foundation supporting proposals.

WLD may also be used for app payments, signaling support for initiatives, or other purposes the community decides. It’s an ERC-20 token, but grants are issued on Optimism, where most WLD activity will likely happen.
