What is Merlin Chain (MERL)?

Merlin Chain is a Layer 2 solution built on Bitcoin that expands the capabilities of the network by integrating ZK-Rollup technology, decentralized oracles, and fraud proofs directly within Bitcoin. Its purpose is to enhance the utility of Bitcoin-native assets, protocols, and applications, allowing for innovation and scalability while leveraging Bitcoin’s security. MERL is the native token of Merlin Chain and serves multiple functions, including staking to secure the network, delegating to collators or running collators to validate the chain, paying network fees on Merlin L3, and acting as liquidity and collateral within the ecosystem. At genesis, the total supply of MERL is 2,100,000,000, distributed among the public, early supporters, core contributors, and the broader Merlin ecosystem. The project is developed by Bitmap Tech, formerly RCSV, founded by Jeff, a Web2 entrepreneur who shifted into the Bitcoin space after seeing the potential of Ordinals in 2023. Bitmap Tech has previously launched products like Bitmap Explorer and BRC-420 and has backing from prominent investors such as Sequoia Capital, IDG Capital, BAI Capital, 5Y Capital, and Vitalbridge. MERL is available for trading on major exchanges including OKX, Bybit, Gate.io, KuCoin, and Bitget, with pairs in leading cryptocurrencies and stablecoins.
