Unique ideas and the knowledge and determination to make them a reality: that’s the real magic. Oh yeah, we’re a bitcoin platform. We understand that potential can be just as valuable as experience. If you're eager to learn, grow, and contribute to the mission but worry that you may not have the “right” experience, we still want you to apply. We encourage applications from everyone, regardless of background and life experience. We’re firm believers that a little bit of slope makes up for a lot of y-intercept. About the Ethereum FoundationThe Ethereum Foundation (EF) is a global non-profit dedicated to supporting Ethereum’s long-term success. Our mission is to allocate resources to critical projects, advocate for Ethereum within the ecosystem, and promote its vision to the world.About the Team and RoleThe EF recently launched the dAI Team, focused on making Ethereum the global, decentralized settlement and coordination layer for AI. Our aim is to pioneer the field of AI on blockchains: defining standards, supporting open-source builders, and laying the groundwork for AI systems that are secure, verifiable, and censorship-resistant.As a Member of AI Staff, you will join a small, research-driven group tackling frontier problems at the intersection of AI and decentralized systems. You’ll work on open questions around multi-agent coordination, verifiable inference, privacy-preserving compute, and decentralized infrastructure for AI. The role is highly collaborative, spanning research, engineering, and engagement with leading AI and Web3 projects worldwide.Key ResponsibilitiesLay the foundations of a new discipline (AI on blockchains): Conduct foundational research at the intersection of AI and Ethereum—multi-agent systems coordination, decentralization of key components in the AI stack, AI system validation, and privacy.Close the chasm between Ethereum and AI communities: Forge relationships and collaborations with AI researchers and practitioners—both industry and academic—through co-writing ERCs/EIPs (such as ERC-8004 which is getting a lot of traction in the ecosystem), contributing to open source AI projects and frameworks, co-authoring papers, and presenting at major conferences.Influence the roadmap of the dAI Team: Translate research into applied proposals that improve the Ethereum protocol and ecosystem infrastructure.Research in conversation with the community, not in isolation: AI on Ethereum is fundamentally about using the chain as a coordination layer to foster security, privacy, composability, and other properties that centralized AI cannot provide. Staying closely connected to the community is a priority—both by actively sharing new projects and results outwardly, and by drawing inspiration from the many experiments ecosystem teams are running in this emerging field.RequirementsRelevant background: Demonstrated skills related to state-of-the-art model development practices, emergent frameworks and tooling, or privacy-preserving compute methods. Prior experience with blockchain protocols is a plus. Contributions to open source AI or distributed systems projects are especially valued.Research excellence: Strong background in research, whether in academia, labs, or applied industry settings. Experience ideally includes AI, distributed systems, optimization, or cryptography. A PhD is welcome but not required if you have a strong track record of impactful projects.Excellent communication and collaboration skills: Comfortable collaborating with diverse teams across both the AI and open-source/blockchain ecosystems, as well as with academic researchers and industry practitioners.Passion for decentralized AI: Strong motivation to carve an alternative path for AI—one that is open source, censorship resistant, democratic, private, and secure.Ability to thrive in a distributed environment: Comfortable working in a fully remote, asynchronous organization across time zones. How We Work We work like an open applied research lab embedded in the Ethereum ecosystem. Most contributions are public by default, and we collaborate directly with academics, independent researchers, startups, and open-source communities. The culture rewards initiative, rigorous thinking, and a willingness to engage across disciplines. This role is ideal for someone who wants to shape the foundations of a new field, while staying close to both research and real-world applications.Other DetailsThis is a full-time role. Our team is distributed globally and remote work from anywhere is possible—with most synchronous time from 2pm UTC onwards. Some travel to events (Devcon, Devconnect, AI × Ethereum workshops) is expected.Competitive compensation, flexible time-off.

About the Ethereum FoundationThe Ethereum Foundation (EF) is a global non-profit dedicated to supporting Ethereum’s long-term success. Our mission is to allocate resources to critical projects, advocate for Ethereum within the ecosystem, and promote its vision to the world.About the Team and RoleThe EF launched a new dAI Team focused on making Ethereum the global, decentralized settlement and coordination layer for AI. The team will define standards, support ecosystem builders, and lay the groundwork for open, censorship-resistant, and verifiable AI systems. As AI Project Manager, you will help align protocol improvements, ecosystem initiatives, and external collaborations. This is a hybrid role that combines technical understanding with strategic coordination: part researcher, part program manager, part developer relations. You’ll track what’s happening across the decentralized AI landscape, support projects building on Ethereum, and coordinate efforts so the community advances together rather than in silos. This coordination will include particular initiatives led by the dAI team, such as the recent ERC-8004 proposal, while also shaping the next wave of work. Areas of focus for coordination efforts include:- Standardizing agent-to-agent protocols on Ethereum and aligning with adjacent specifications.- Defining primitives for verifiable inference, decentralized compute, privacy and user-owned data.- Coordinating across L2s, infrastructure projects, and applications/agents builders so that adoption compounds.Key Activities- Coordinate research and standards development (e.g., for agent payments, trust, privacy, A2A/MCP integration, open models).- Engage with teams building AI infra and applications on Ethereum: understand their architectures, identify gaps, and connect them with EF resources.- Organize and facilitate working groups, design discussions, and workshops across EF, L2s, and ecosystem partners.- Synthesize community feedback and help shape specifications into stable proposals (EIPs/ERCs, Linux Foundation WGs, etc.).- Collaborate with EF Ecosystem teams to support high-leverage decentralized AI projects.- Map the decentralized AI landscape (agents, inference networks, data protocols, open source and web3-specific models and frameworks) and maintain an ecosystem view of active efforts.RequirementsTo excel in this role, you should have extensive hands-on experience building on Ethereum and/or AI—whether smart contracts, dApps, infrastructure, or AI tools, finetuning, inference, evaluations—and strong, well-informed opinions about how the AI ecosystem on Ethereum should evolve. We’re looking for someone who can easily switch between high-level strategy and hands-on problem solving. You should feel confident working closely with technical teams, understanding how things are built, and contributing to decisions about how systems are designed and improved—with a data-driven mindset and good judgment.Bonus points if you have experience managing resource allocation tradeoffs, leading technical initiatives across teams, or successfully identifying and acting on emerging technology trends before they become mainstream. In summary:- Deep interest in AI: agent systems, and decentralized protocols, with an understanding of why a trust layer such as Ethereum matters for AI.- Background in Ethereum or Web3 ecosystems: Familiar with how Ethereum works and the broader ecosystem around it, with experience engaging with technologies like smart contracts, scaling solutions, or community standards.- Familiarity with AI-agent protocols (A2A, MCP, x402) or adjacent standards, comfort learning new technical domains quickly.- Excellent communication and coordination skills: able to convene diverse stakeholders and build consensus in open forums.- Mindset: high ownership, collaborative, community-first; excited to work across ambiguous and fast-moving problem spaces. How We WorkThe EF isn’t a traditional workplace. We operate with autonomy, impact, and accountability. Most contributions are public by default, requiring proactive engagement, clear communication, and effective collaboration without direct authority. This role will demand clarity, rapid execution, and genuine commitment to Ethereum’s mission.Contract DetailsThis is a full-time role. We’re seeking a hands-on CTO Advisor to stabilize reliability (stop regressions, reduce Sev-1s), install a lightweight SDLC/SRE/MLOps cadence, and leave behind simple runbooks and dashboards the team can operate. This is an advisor role (not a line-manager): you design gates, coach leads, and facilitate incident and release hygiene.Type: Advisor (contract) • Time: 10–20 hrs/week (90 days), then 2–4 hrs/month • Comp: Equity + $TMAI only (no cash) • Reporting to: CEOLocation: Austin preferred; open to remote (US/EU/APAC time-zones) What You’ll Do (Responsibilities) Establish release gates in CI/CD (tests/coverage, static checks, feature flags, canary/shadow) and clear rollback/kill-switch triggers. Implement SRE fundamentals: 3–5 SLOs (e.g., data freshness, job success rate, API latency/availability, exception closure time) with an error-budget policy. Enforce Change & Exceptions Logs; drive post-mortems (Sev-1/2) with action items and owners. Pair with Quant to harden AI index safety (model/versioning, parity tests, drift/health alerts). Produce concise runbooks & dashboards; coach engineering leads; hand back the system. What You Won’t Do (Scope guardrails) No day-to-day people management or sprint ownership. No wallet signatory or payment approvals. No changes to liquidity or emissions policy (owned by the $TMAI council). Qualifications Must-have 4+ years leading engineering in crypto (protocol/DeFi, exchange, market/data infra, or comparable). Proven SDLC/DevOps/CI-CD and SRE practice (SLOs + error budgets + incident response). Experience shipping data/ML systems or MLOps basics (versioning, parity tests, safe rollout). Excellent technical writing and async collaboration. Nice-to-have Smart-contract security/audit handoffs; keys/secrets/multisig hygiene. Prior work with index/market-data pipelines or exchange connectivity. Success Metrics (first 90 days) Reliability: measurable reduction in failures (e.g., Sev-1/MTTR ↓ ≥20%; regression escapes ↓ ≥30%). Hygiene: 100% prod changes pre-logged; Sev-1 post-mortems with actions ≤72h; SLOs live and reported monthly. Adoption: release gates and runbooks in use by named owners without advisor involvement. Collaboration Operating Chair (monthly business review), Quant (AI indices), $TMAI observers (liquidity dependencies), Finance & Controls (audit evidence). How to Apply Share: 1) a redacted SLO doc you authored 2) a redacted incident/runbook you wrote, 3) two sentences on your biggest reliability turnaround and the gate you added afterward. About Token MetricsToken Metrics builds AI-driven on-chain indices and analytics. Our goal is to make crypto investing simple, reliable, and institution-grade. We’re shipping AI-automated indices, integrating with venues like Pendle/DEX/CEX, and preparing for public-markets readiness.
