What is MetaMask USD (MUSD)?

MetaMask USD (mUSD) is a stablecoin launched in September 2025 by MetaMask, issued through Bridge and powered by the M0 protocol. As the first stablecoin created by a self-custodial wallet, mUSD is backed by short-term U.S. Treasury bills held in regulated custody, ensuring that each token in circulation is fully collateralized by equivalent dollar-based assets.
Initially deployed on Ethereum Mainnet and Linea, mUSD is deeply integrated across the EVM ecosystem, supporting lending markets, decentralized exchanges, custodial platforms, and fiat-to-crypto onramps. Beyond on-chain activity, mUSD can also be spent through MetaMask Card at Mastercard merchants worldwide, bridging digital assets with everyday financial utility.
Designed as a wallet-native stablecoin, mUSD simplifies the user journey across crypto by enabling seamless onramping, holding, earning, and spending directly within MetaMask.
